What type of appointment do I need?
This depends upon whether you are interested in preventing problems from occuring or seeking immediate treatment for an obvious concern.

Dr Nick Kotsomitis talking about prevention with a patient

PREVENTION

Prevention and early treatment where indicated can be very rewarding.

Guiding the development of the bite and smile is rarely urgent. Treatment is unlikely to commence without an observation period, even if early problems are apparent.

Assessment, monitoring and education are paramount. Individualised patient records and information will be provided in digital format which can be referred to at home.

School holidays are ideal for these types appointments.

The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation by the age of 7. Children who are not ready for braces will benefit from an early evaluation by having their growth and development monitored by an orthodontic specialist.

TREATMENT

A spectacular smile, improved dental health, improved facial aesthetics and a boost to self-esteem should be the goal of everyone seeking orthodontic treatment. Age should not be a factor in achieving these goals. These benefits are available to anyone - young or old. Yes, adults can have beautifully straight teeth.

Dr Nick Kotsomitis with a staff memberIf treatment is required you will be accommodated promptly.

At your first visit we require enough time to assess all of your concerns by taking digital records (x-rays and photographs). For this reason we may ask you to come at a time which may be inconvenient, but it will allow us ample time to assess, present and discuss all treatment options* with you.

At the end of this visit, answers to the following questions about orthodontic treatment will be provided - is it required, when would be the best time to start, treatment options and expected duration of treatment.

We will also outline our affordable payment plans. Treatment can start within a week if desired.

Most subsequent appointments will be scheduled outside of school/work hours.
